What is the area like?

This is a European delight. The streets are clean and tree lined with cafes and shops on every corner. It is the thing in Tel Aviv to walk when possible. You can walk along these quiet streets to the beach which is only fifteen minutes away. You will need to walk toward the Dizengoff Center where you can find every Israeli shop as well as some exclusive local shops. There are cafes and restaurants along the way for you to choose. Roladin is a local favorite just outside the mall with choices of pastries that will make you loosen your belt. try the 'soufganyot" and a coffee while watching all the people walking by on the way to Israel's favorite pastime; shopping.

What shall I have for lunch?

You have many choices in this great neighborhood. In Israel the food culture is unique in that many local restaurants and cafes pop on in the most unusual places. You can be walking along and suddenly find a cafe in the first floor of an apartment building or in an alleyway with great old Tel Aviv architecture on each side of you.

The last place I stopped for lunch was in Basil Square. "Rustico" is a great Italian restaurant with great pasta choices. It is very classic with lunch specials and great plates for dinner. Candlelight ensures a nice romantic dinner of pasta and wine.

Where can I empty my wallet?

You MUST walk norh of Nordau Street and find the HaYarkon River and Park. It is a great green area with lawns and trees for a nice relaxing picnic or just kicking the ball around with the kids. You can also rent a boat here for a nice leisurely day on the water.

A day's shopping is best reached by cab to Sheinkin Street. There many unique shops in this area that are so different than the mall stores. You can find local artisans at HaAri Kabbalah Jewelry. This one of a kind Judaica shop is on the beginning of the shopping avenue and all artifacts are designed and created by Israelis.

On the other end of the stratosphere at Sheinkin 18 you will find krembo records and T-shirts. This is a very unique one off t-shirt shop. You can pick up all you t-shirt souvenirs here.

You should plan to walk back to the Nordau area by foot so that you can find your place to have dinner and enjoy the people watching along the way. Tel Aviv comes alive after dark and gets livlier the closer to midnight.

Arts and Entertainment?

The Tel Aviv Museum of Modern Art is on Shmuel Hamelek street and houses the largest collection of Israeli artists. You also find a great collection from Peggy Gugenheim of well known international artists.

The Elena Rubenstein Museum is a small place in the heart of the Dizengoff neighborhood. You can walk there or take a cab to the area and walk back.

Let's Get Practical

ATMs are on every corner and you can receive shekels at the lowest rates all in English, Hebrew or Russian. Buses and taxis are a quick and cheap option to get around Tel Aviv and the beach area. You are about 20 minutes by cab to Old Jaffa or find the number 10 bus on Ben Yehuda nd go south to the Clock Tower in Old Jaffa. Tel Avivians are ready to tell you where you need to go so ask for directions.
