Arab style loft near the Old Jaffa port
Exotic blends of colour, decor and historic building
What's in it?
This is a special and unique loft style home in a typical Arab style building, with high arched ceilings, beautifully restored internal brickwork and exotic tones and colours. The owner is a decorator and artist, and their eclectic personal style is reflected in this home, with ceramics, Moraccan lights, a collection of pots hanging from hooks in the kitchen, which all add to create a romantic hideaway destination in the heart of Jaffa. The loft bedroom upstairs has a Victorian style bathtub , and downstairs in the living area , there is a double sleeper couch. The kitchen and living area are open plan and a cloakroom and toliet lead off from it. There are charming steps from Hatsedef Street which lead down to the apartment entrance.
What is the area like?
Hatsedef Street in Jaffa's Maronite quarter is well known to diplomats, architects and artists, and many of the old historic homes have been beautifully restored to their original glory. The apartment is a few steps away from the Jaffa Port, flea market and the historic Old Jaffa, with it's winding streets and artists colony.
What shall I have for lunch?
"Ali Karawan" is around the corner and is one of Tel Aviv's most famous hummus places. In the Jaffa Flea Market, try "Pua" for local Israeli style home cooking, or for excellent steaks and meat, " Charcouterie". For something more typical, head to "Dr Shakshuka" near the Jaffa Clock Tower.
Where can I empty my wallet?
Shopping in Jaffa is varied - from haggling in the flea market to paying Top Dollar in the art galleries! The local flea market has carpets, antiques, collectables, souvenirs and some coffee shops and kiosks. In the Ol Port, artists and jewellers work in their studios which can visited. There are interesting vintage shops, home interiors, and desinger boutiques dotted in amongst the typical flea market stores.
Arts and Entertainment?
Ilana Goor has a museum and gallery in the Old Port, there are vening shows at " Ha Simta" , a local theatre, and for an evening drink try "Yoezer Wine Bar " near the Clock Tower. There are some ecellent fish and seafood restaurants open in the evenings on Kedem Street.
Let's Get Practical
ATMs with English service are found in Jaffa at the Clock Tower, along with Forex Change places, and local phone cards can also be bought. The No 10 bus travels along Yefet Street every 20 miuntes for transport into Tel Aviv centre.
